  • What is a beef share?
A beef share is a portion of a cow that you purchase directly from a farmer. It allows you to buy a quarter, half, or whole cow, and have the meat processed to your specifications.
  • Do you feed grain to your cows?
We DO NOT feed any grain to our cattle. Period.
  • What is dry aging?
Dry aging involves placing meat in a controlled, open-air environment, allowing it to undergo a rich flavor transformation. As the meat is exposed to air, moisture is drawn out, and the beef's natural enzymes gradually break down the muscle fibers, resulting in a more tender and flavorful cut.
  • How long will our beef last in the freezer?
Beef that is vacuum-sealed can maintain its freshness in your freezer for up to a year, preserving its quality and flavor. Proper sealing and freezing help lock in the beef’s natural juices and nutrients, ensuring that even if you go beyond the one-year mark, your meat will remain delicious and satisfying.
  • What breed of cattle do you raise?
All the animals in our holistic beef program are Hereford X Red Angus with small infusions of other breeds for increased marbling, drought hardiness and grass conversion ability. We carefully select and improve our herd’s genetics to ensure you receive the highest quality beef, all raised on a 100% grass-fed diet.
  • How is Wattening Spring Farm beef different from grocery store beef?
Wattening Spring Farm beef stands out because of our commitment to quality and transparency. When you buy from us, you’re not just getting beef; you’re getting a direct line to the farmer—you can pick up the phone and talk to me personally. Unlike big supermarket chains, which may have different standards. We ensure that our cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, never fed grain at any point in their lives. This aligns with our dedication to regenerative agriculture, which you won’t always find in supermarket beef. Additionally, buying in bulk from us—whether it’s a quarter, half, or whole share—is more economical than purchasing individual cuts from a supermarket. By teaming up with friends or family, you not only save money but also secure a supply of some of the healthiest beef available for the year.
  • Is my beef free from antibiotics and hormones?
Yes, our beef is completely free from antibiotics and hormones. We prioritize natural and sustainable farming practices to ensure the highest quality meat for you and your family.
  • For how long do you dry age?
We dry age all of our beef for at least 14 days. Each cut matures differently, and our skilled butchers determine the perfect time for processing based on their expert judgment.
